Yesterday, AK (best known as one half of The Underachievers) released his solo tape Blessings In The Gray. Among the well-curated mix of nine tracks was "Times Change," a highlight of the tape.
Though most instrumentals on the project were concocted with either smokey jazz keys, mellotron or both, "Times Change" stands out for the sterling melody it provides: a tinkling, ascending pentatonic scale that recalls vintage kung-fu flicks. However, unlike the compositions of RZA, which also draw inspiration from that source, it's uplifting and mind-expanding rather than harrowing and eerie. The perfect backing to more of AK's musings on his third eye.
Quotable Lyrics:
Hard to maintain when your friends go and drive you insane
Times change, no time for pawns, we the Gods man
