Matt Reeves is moving back to the Noir-driven style old Batman tales.

The interest in the eventual The Batman film died down the moment Ben Affleck declined a second-helping of the titular role - even though writer/director extraordinaire Matt Reeves was pencilled in on the project, rain or shine. But that's about to change, now that Reeves is teasing the press with some, if not many of The Batman's dizzying plotlines.

For starters, Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter that he's taken up the Crime-Thriller angle for a change, instead of making the character out to be some haggard person who just so happens to have a strong predilection towards civic duty. "It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale," he explained. "It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films."

Reeves says instead of focusing on one adversary "The Batman" will pit the superhero against a "rogues gallery" of villains from years past. Although none of the characters, let alone a "Batman" figurant, have been cast have been whitelisted as of this writing, Reeves hopes to begin the process ASAP. The director/writer predicts a late Spring or Summer release for The Batman, in the year 2021 - keep it locked.
