Video footage of Jussie Smollett prior to his hospitalization has been reviewed by Chicago police. While it shows the Empire actor walking to a downtown apartment, it did not show any attack. Legal authorities can confirm the route Smollett took on Tuesday but there are gaps according to Anthony Guglielmi, the Chicago Police Department's Chief Communications Officer.
"We haven't seen anybody, at this point, matching the description he gave, nobody looks menacing and we didn't find a container anywhere," Guglielmi said, referring to the container that would have carried the liquid that was thrown at Smollett.
On January 29, shared a statement in relation to an incident leading to Jussie Smollett's hospitalization. "Overnight, the Chicago Police Department received a report of a possible racially charges assault and battery involving a cast member of the television show Empire," the statement read. "Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime."
He later revealed that the department was still working towards retrieving evidence that would develop the investigation. “Tonight Chicago Police detectives expanded the search area for cameras to be able to provide photos of the alleged assailants in this attack.”
Several hours before, locals were encouraged to share any relevant details with legal authorities in anonymity. "Thus far we have not found anything to be able put out a description." Guglielmi had stated.
