Last week, it was reported that Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim was in a car accident that resulted in the death of 51-year-old Syracuse man Jorge Jimenez. Jimenez was in a car that broke down during the night on the side of the highway. The man got out of the vehicle and that is when Boeheim struck him with his car on the icy road, which led to the death of the man. Boeheim immediately cooperated completely and even passed a field sobriety test. Officials have looked into it and according to TMZ Sports, Boeheim was not speeding during the accident and did everything he could to try and avoid the accident.
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick is now saying that Boeheim will most likely not face any charges or be prosecuted for what happened.
The coach already issued a statement about the accident saying he was "heartbroken that a member of our community died as the result of last night’s accident." Boeheim followed that up by remarking that "Juli and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Jimenez family. Out of respect for those involved, I will not be providing further comment at this time."
Boeheim explained earlier that he had seen a crash on the side of the road and tried to avoid it but never actually saw Jimenez on the road.
