A live-action "Mortal Kombat" movie is in pre-production.

Recent reports by HYPEBEAST confirm the successful streak of video-game to movie adaptions has enticed the making of a live-action Mortal Kombat movie. The news stems from Australian sources close to the news outlet who confirmed the Mortal Kombat movie had now entered pre-production. The film is looking good thus far, and the sources have even gone onto brag that it might be "the biggest studio production in the local industry’s history." We certainly hope it does not disappoint, otherwise, it may experience the same fate at the Sonic film

Furthermore, the reboot will be directed by Simon McQuoin and the latter will be his directional debut. According to The Hashtag Show, the plot will center around a new character named Cole Turner, "a Philadelphia boxer that is recruited by a prophecy chaser to compete in a fantastical tournament – the outcome of which determines the fate of Earth and its inhabitants." But have no fear Mortal Kombat fans, the mainstay characters from the franchise will still make an appearance in the new movie.

Considering Detective Pikachu's successful box office debut, it is fair to assume it has inspired producers and movie-makers to take a jab at making more video-game to movie adaptions.
