It remains to be seen which team will secure the coveted #1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft but one thing remains certain - Zion Williamson will be the first selection. However, if the New York Knicks are the team that gets the opportunity to select Zion, they could look to immediately trade the 18-year old phenom for Anthony Davis.
According to Shams Charania, New York will shift their focus to making a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans if the ping pong balls land in their favor during tonight's draft lottery.
As we know, the Knicks will also be in the market for two top free agents, such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, this summer. In fact, the Knicks are reportedly prepared to give the two All Stars "whatever the hell they want."
In order to add Anthony Davis to a potential KD & Kyrie tandem, the Knicks would need to trade away several young assets including Kevin Knox, Dennis Smith Jr. and either Frank Ntilikina or Allonzo Trier, just to make the contracts work. Not to mention, they'd be parting ways with Zion Williamson - the most talked about incoming rookie since LeBron James.
Having finished with the worst record in the NBA, the Knicks have a 14% chance of landing Zion Williamson, as do the Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns. The Knicks, their fans, and the rest of the basketball world will learn more on Tuesday night as the NBA Draft Lottery gets underway at 8:30pm ET on ESPN.
