This feature highlights a hand-picked selection of some of the bigger tracks of the week. We have chosen a few of the tracks that landed within our top 25 most played, focusing on those that stood out, and left room for discussion. This edition features Fabolous, 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, and more! Take a look at the list in the gallery above, and feel free to let us know your own favorite tracks in the comments.
Chris Brown- Wildcat
Chris Brown drops a new ode to getting high, which comes at a strange time, considering he was just taken off his medical marijuana prescription in anger management rehab. The song was obviously recorded some time before his time in the facility, but served as a nice freebie just in time for Christmas.
Gucci Mane- Wish You Was Me
Gucci managed to pull out some of his biggest hits of the year while incarcerated-- an impressive feat to say the least. Like "Mention Me," "Wish You Was Me" keeps things simple and effective, though the title definitely bears some irony in light of Wop's current situation. The beat is really the most thrilling part of the song however. Coming courtesy of 808 Mafia, who have been doing great things this year, the instrumental is as cartoonish as it is menacing, a perfect fit for Gucci's persona.
Drake- We Made It
Many were surprised at Drake's choice to hop on a Soulja Boy song, but they're likely just not giving Soulja enough credit. Let's not forget that the hook for Birdman's "4 My Town" originated from a Soulja outtake. Overall, the SODMG rapper is more influential than most realize. It's hard to see GBE existing without him, or "Worst Behaviour" for that matter.
Naturally, Drake uses aspects of his flow used on "Worst" for his freestyle on "We Made It," which works well compared to the just-a-little-too-forced version he uses on "Trophies". The "Versace" flow is also in full effect, and while it works in the context, maybe we can get some new flows from Drizzy in 2014.
Fabolous- Foreigners (Feat. Meek Mill)
Fab breaks the composure he usually assigns to his flows on his new track, opting for a Karate Chop-esque stuttered rhythm. It helps him hold his own next to the always furious Meek Mill, who turns in a pretty memorable 16 himself.
2 Chainz- Twerk Season (Feat. Lil Wayne)
2 Chainz and Lil Wayne apparently decided that Xmas day was the start of "Twerk Season" this year. Personally, I thought twerk season had been going for a while, but either way, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne have an undeniable chemistry on lighter tracks like this. Word is they may have a joint project in the works, which couldn't hurt if it was full of straight ahead bangers we've come to expect from the duo.
