It's well documented that director Spike Lee is a huge fan of the New York Knicks. You can typically find him courtside at Knicks games going completely off the rails whenever things aren't going the team's way. He's even gotten into beef with opposing players, most notably Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers back in the 90s. Last night, Lee was at the Oscars where he won an award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his film BlacKkKlansman.
The award was presented to him by Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson. Although before his name was announced, Jackson addressed Lee by letting him know that just moments earlier, the Knicks had won their game against the San Antonio Spurs by a score of 130-118. Going into last night's game, the Knicks had lost 18-straight home games but were able to snap that streak.
In response to the news, Lee shouted back at Jackson saying "We're trying to tank."
Lee is obviously a big fan of Duke star Zion Williamson who is set to go first overall in this year's NBA entry draft. If the Knicks keep winning, they'd risk losing a high draft pick which would be tough considering the team has been struggling to win over the few years.
