Earlier today, we reported on text messages that were leaked, showing Kim Foxx and her staff engaging in commentary about Jussie Smollett's case. The prosecutor referred to Smollett as a "washed up celeb" and implied that they had overcharged him. The kicker is that this all happened after she recused herself from the case. In the same messages, Foxx compares Smollett's case to R. Kelly's, asking how it's fair that somebody who "lied to the cops" gets sixteen charges against them but a "pedophile" like R. Kelly only gets ten. It didn't take long for Kelly's lawyer to find out about the messages, speaking to TMZ about them.
Steve Greenberg, who has been critiqued in the past for his own outrageous comments, has issued his retort to Kim Foxx calling his client a "pedophile." According to the media outlet, Greenberg isn't happy about Foxx's comments, especially since Kelly has not been found guilty of anything in a court of justice. The lawyer says that Foxx is "letting her personal biases color the way she characterizes Kelly's case" by comparing the charges to Smollett's.
Greenberg isn't immediately calling for Foxx to be removed from R. Kelly's case -- he first wants to gather all of the evidence he needs -- but he will eventually come to a decision on whether or not it's appropriate for her to remain on the case. The lawyer believes that Foxx's behaviour has been "dysfunctional and chaotic," noting that she also lacks objectivity.
