Ali won the award for his role in "Green Book."

Last night was the 91st edition of the infamous Oscars awards show. It is probably the biggest night in film thanks to the fact that it honors all of the best movies, actors and behind the scenes people from that particular year. While this year's Oscars were clouded in controversy thanks to the fact that there was no host, it was a big spectacle nonetheless. Green Book ended up winning the biggest honor of the night as "Best Film" of the year, while one of its actors, Mahershala Ali, made some history.

Ali won his second Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. The first time he won was for the movie Moonlight. Thanks to the win, Ali is now the first black actor to have two Best Supporting Actor wins. In his speech, Ali thanked those involved with the film as well as his grandmother.

"I want to dedicate this to my grandmother, who has been in my ear my entire life, telling me that if at first I don’t succeed, try, try again," Ali said. "I know that I would not be here, that she has gotten me over the hump every step of the way."

Some other notable winners from last night were Olivia Colman for Best Actress, Regina King for Best Supporting Actress, and Rami Malek for Best Actor.
