In recent weeks, a few celebrities have spoken out to boycott popular luxury fashion brand Gucci after they released a sweater that resembled somebody wearing blackface. T.I. has been one of the most outspoken voices supporting the boycott, offering black-owned alternatives for people interested in luxury fashion. Last week, Tip suffered heartbreak when his big sister, Precious Harris, passed away after a serious car accident. The family was hoping that she would power through but, unfortunately, Precious passed away on February 22 after a week-long battle. T.I. reacted emotionally on social media after processing his sister's death and now, he's sharing the final text message exchange he had with Precious.
Unsurprisingly, the rapper and his sister spoke about the Gucci scandal and part of the reason why Tip is moving forward with his outspoken attacks against the brand is because of Precious' words. "Y'all rappers started spending and they capitalized on it," said Precious after pointing out that she experienced racism while working at a luxury shop. "Just for y'all rappers. They don't sell that shit to regular customers," says Harris about special collections that brands like Gucci have allegedly designed to entice black Americans to spend their money.
"THIS WHY IM STAYING ON @gucci NECK!!! Cause SHE SAID SO!!!!" wrote T.I. While this began as a personal boycott of the label, it's just become even more deeply-rooted. Don't expect to see T.I. rocking Gucci anytime soon.
