Spike Lee tried to exit the theatre after "Green Book" won.

Last night, Spike Lee earned his first non-honorary award at the Oscars and it was a long-overdue moment. His win was one of the most noteworthy moments of the night, touching on a few controversial topics and finally getting his chance to speak to the Dolby Theatre crowd. While he likely would have enjoyed walking away with the Best Director prize in addition to his Adapted Screenplay win, that ended up going home with Alfonso Cuarón for Roma. One choice that Spike was visibly upset by was the outcome of the biggest award of the night: Best Picture.

According to a few different sources, Spike Lee was visibly upset after the winner for Best Picture was named, getting up and trying to leave the show. Perhaps he was expecting to hit the stage for a second time that night, or maybe he thought Roma would win like the majority of film critics, but something ticked him off. In a post-show interview, Lee sounded off about the moment. "I’m snakebit," said the director according to Variety. "Every time someone’s driving somebody, I lose."

Of course, Green Book and Driving Miss Daisy are both films about drivers, which he has ultimately lost awards to. On the reason why he walked to the exit before being led back to his seat, he said, "I thought I was courtside at the Garden and the refs made a bad call."

What do you think of Green Book's big win last night?
