Baldwin posts series of tweets, signaling his retirement from the NFL.

Longtime Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin is ready to hang up his cleats after eight seasons in the NFL.

Baldwin, who was released by the Seahawks last Thursday with a failed physical designation, took to Twitter on Mother’s Day with a message to his younger self in which he signaled his retirement.

In a string of tweets, Baldwin explains, "I wanted to write you this letter and tell you that you’re about to endure one hell of a journey. You will feel emotional and physical pain you never knew existed. You will fail over and over again. But don’t worry, all of it will be the reason why you succeed."

You can check out the full series of tweets, which concludes with a Game of Thrones reference, below.

Baldwin finishes his career with 493 catches for 6,593 and 49 touchdowns - all of which rank top three in Seahawks franchise history. He spent all eight seasons with the team, which includes two Pro Bowl campaigns, two 1,000-yard receiving seasons and a Super Bowl championship in the 2013 season.

The undrafted free agent out of Stanford, played in 13 games with 50 catches, 618 yards and five touchdowns during his final season with Seattle in 2018.
