The LOX discuss their surprise EP "The Trinity," their upcoming album, and the New York rap scene with Hot 97.

The LOX were circulating on the web last week, when they randomly decided to release a new EP, The Trinity. Now that the project is out, they're doing a little bit of promo for it. Sheek Louch, Jadakiss and Styles P all hit up Hot 97's Morning Show to discuss the EP, the status of their album, the New York rap scene and more.

The LOX used the drop-a-project-out-of-nowhere tactic following in the footsteps of Beyonce. As Jadakiss explains, "It felt right." He continued to give Jay Z's wifey a shout out. "In this business, timing is everything. The gut feeling is important. And taking chances is always great. It’s like a gamble. Big shout out to Beyonce, she paved the way on a bigger scale."

Kiss added, "We ain't do it because she did it. She made it better."

Nonetheless, fans are itching for a proper full-length studio album from The LOX, who have been MIA on that front since the 2000 release We Are The Streets. Sheek says, "Hopefully top of the year," we'll receive their new LP. As they discuss it more, the blame gets put on industry politics. Jadakiss also throws shade on Def Jam for the hold up on his own solo effort (see: Jeezy).

Styles P explains, "The lack of our album is due to politics, but we’ll get around the politics and you will get a body of music. [The Trinity] was like saying, ‘Hey we here, and screw the politics, now deal with us.’ It all kind of worked. Now everything is just flowing right."

The three emcees also debate the current New York rap landscape with Ebro and Cipha Sounds. While some say that the New York rap scene is on a decline (Trinidad James, for example), each rapper shouts out NY emcees they're feeling. Among them, Troy Ave, Joey Bada$$ and Mack Wilds are named.
