Her third single is playing out quite well.

When Ariana Grande released her latest single, it was received with mixed emotions. "7 rings" was labeled as a ripoff by a couple of artists, as it seems to have gotten its swag from previously released songs. The buzz created in controversy may have contributed to the song's success, however.

According to Official Charts, "7 rings" scored "an opening week combined sales figure of 126,000, split between 15,000 downloads and 16.9 million streams, setting a new UK chart record for the most streams of a song in a week." The previous record-holder, Mariah Carey’s "All I Want for Christmas Is You," had 15.3m streams one week in December 2018.

The melody used in the "7 rings" verses obviously came from the fan-favorite "Favorite Things" from the classic musical, Sound of Music. The other parts seemed to be borrowed as well. Both Soulja Boi and Princess Nokia spoke out against the pop singer claiming she had stolen phrasing and themes from their songs. These artists' fans may have contributed to the outstanding numbers GRande's single earned since many may have streamed the tracks for comparison. As a result, Princess Nokia's track also benefitted from a spike in streaming. A "7 Rings" remix featuring Soulja's "Pretty Boy Swag" has been making rounds as well.
