Russell Wilson signed a huge deal with the Seattle Seahawks last night, despite reports that the two weren't anywhere close to a deal. Wilson had given the Seahawks an April 15th deadline and told them that if a deal wasn't in place by then, he would not sign a contract afterward. Instead of calling his bluff, the Seahawks gave him what he asked for. Wilson is now the highest paid player in the league with a $140 million contract extension over four years. At an annual average salary of $35 million, Wilson makes more money than Aaron Rodgers who rakes in $33.5 million a year.
After signing his big deal, Wilson and his wife Ciara took to Twitter where they looked pretty happy and cuddled up. Wilson addressed his fans letting them know that they could breathe easy as a deal was finally agreed to.
"Hey Seattle, we got a deal," Wilson said. "Go Hawks! But, I'm gonna see y'all in the morning."
Wilson's deal also includes a pretty hefty signing bonus of $65 million. With Wilson locked up until 2023, the Seahawks are poised to be a contender for years to come.
