It's been a minute since the golden era of serial killer movies, which hit a feverish pitch in the mid-nineties with Silence Of The Lambs and Se7en. That's not to say the genre has died out, as interest and fascination in the macabre never quite leaves the zeitgeist. Yet there has been a marked absence in theatrical released serial killer flicks, with David Fincher's Zodiac marking one of the last great contributions to the genre. Now, however, marks a new arrival, the Ted Bundy-centric Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, And Vile, starring Zac Efron as the notorious killer.
The first official trailer for the upcoming movie has arrived, featuring a good look at Efron in the leading role. The film's tone is interesting to say the least, seemingly taking a lighter approach to the historically dark subject matter. After all, Bundy murdered over thirty people, the majority of which were young women; not to mention his Wikipedia page labels him a serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile. Yet Efron appears to be bringing his natural charisma to the role, which stands in line with Bundy's own reported demeanor. As of now, the jury is still out on whether this film will properly convey the sordid and violent history of Bundy's terrifying run.
