When Mo'Nique was offered $500,000 by Netflix to do a comedy special earlier this year, just a 26th of what Amy Schumer was offered, she decided she would attempt to lead a boycott of the streaming giant because of "color bias and gender bias," posting a video on Instagram:
After the video blew up, she was invited on The View to talk explain the story in more depth, where she ended up having an argument with Whoopi Goldberg, who admonished her for not travelling to Cannes on her own dime to promote Precious, a movie for which she won an Oscar.
Mo'Nique, having had some time to think about the spat, told Vulture in an interview that Whoopi, although she's got an EGOT, is certainly not one to judge: “because what you’re saying to me is, ‘You must work for free. I could’ve schooled you,'” she explained. “When I look at this woman you say is our icon and our legend — she is. But, how many things has Whoopi Goldberg executive produced? Whoopi Goldberg has always been the help, and I say that humbly. So what is it that you’re going to school me on? I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years.”
