Major League Baseball has officially announced a 10-year partnership with Nike today, which will see Nike as the official uniform and footwear manufacturer of MLB.
As a result of the Nike x MLB pact, all on-field uniforms will feature the signature Swoosh, and include baselayer, game-day outerwear and all training apparel for 30 teams in Major League Baseball.
Eben Novy-Williams of Bloomberg, reports that MLB and Under Armour originally agreed to a 10-year deal in 2016, but Under Armour later backed out.
In addition to the Nikes news, the MLB has also announced that Fanatics will distribute Nike's MLB products, including jerseys, postseason apparel, and other MLB branded gear, as an official partner.
“Nike’s global brand and reputation as a leader in marketing and driving innovation makes them an ideal partner,” said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred (H/T Forbes). “In addition, Fanatics is a valuable partner who has proven to serve our fans with speed, agility and quality service. We’re very excited about the possibilities this unique arrangement provides us over the next decade.”
Nike is now the official uniform supplier for three of the four major U.S. sports: MLB, NFL and NBA. Adidas currently manufactures the NHL's uniforms.
