Ice Cube's new film "Ride Along" breaks box office records for Martin Luther King Day weekend.

Apart from working on a new album and an N.W.A. film, Ice Cube starred in a new comedy with Kevin Hart, "Ride Along." The movie hit theatres this past weekend, and despite being a holiday weekend the film did big numbers.

"Ride Along" was released on Friday, January 17th on Martin Luther King Day weekend. The film managed to make $14.4 million in the first day it was out, and $41.2 million within the first three days. That makes an opening weekend total of $47.8 million, which breaks a record for the biggest opening on the holiday weekend in film history.

The previous record holder for the Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend is 2008's "Cloverfield" which clocked in with $46.1 million.
