Rocko surprised fans today with a new mixtape, Poet, which is dedicated to Maya Angelou who passed away yesterday. Angelou's death, at the age of 86, had rappers tweeting all day, but Rocko decided to step things up with a selection of socially conscious records. Apparently the music has been in the works for a few months, but with Angelou's passing Rocko decided it was the right time to drop it. The music that accompanies the topics also takes a different direction than we're used to hearing from Rocko.
"Hustle" in particular has Nas and Rocko spitting about life injustices (police corruption etc) and how come there is need for a hustle.
Head here to cop the full Poet mixtape. Let us know if you're digging this side of Rocko. "Hustle" is a far cry from Rocko's recent "Good" collabo with Lil Wayne.
Quotable Lyrics
Under surveillance, gotta pay another bailiff
Got spray another Mack, ducking all these bullets hailing
It's not enough crack heads like it used to be
Unless you selling bricks, you ain't seeing Gs
Gotta bust a script real quick, pills or lean
Get whatever from a pharmacy
It's either that or a robbery
Catch a nigga shining, book his punk ass
You know the look on our faces when we want cash
