Chris Brown has taken a page out of Lindsey Lohan's playbook in hopes to avoid jail time. A day after being released from police custody following an assault charge from this past weekend in Washington D.C., Chris Brown has decided to check himself into rehab.
According to E! News, the R&B star has checked himself into rehab to regain focus on his recent and past behavior. A rep for Chris Brown made the following statement to E! News today:
"Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."
Another source close to Brown told E! News that he was a "good kid" at heart, but what he really needed was rehab and intensive therapy.
"He needs help. He keeps self-medicating with weed and alcohol and that's when he always gets in trouble," the insider source said.
Brown, charged with a misdemeanor simple assault (reduced from a felony assault), has pleaded not guilty to punching a man outside the W Hotel on Sunday morning. He is due back in court on November 25th.
According to TMZ, Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, dropped him off at the rehab facility in Malibu accompanied by his mother and girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
Think Chris will have to do some jail time?
[Update: L.A. Probation Department Unimpressed]
According to TMZ, the L.A. Probation Department is unimpressed with Chris Brown's decision to check into a Malibu rehab clinic for anger management. They apparently feel Brown's outbursts have only been escalating, and believe his checking into a rehab is "too little, too late."
As such, they've begun "aggressively investigating" the R&B star's altercation in Washington D.C. last week, and a source claims they're "gunning for him" and are "embarrassed by what he's done over the last two years".
If the judge rules in their favor, Brown could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
That's all for now. Stay tuned for updates.
