Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge spoke with reporters Thursday afternoon ahead of the team's first round matchup against the Indiana Pacers - but before he got into the state of the Celtics, he made sure to take a jab at their longtime rival, the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to multiple reporters who were on hand for Ainge's media availability, he kicked things off by announcing his "resignation" a la Magic Johnson. Unlike Magic, Ainge, of course, was joking.
Johnson, who took over as Lakers President of Basketball Operations two years ago, abruptly stepped down from the position on Tuesday night, just moments before the Lakers' final game of the season.
The unexpected announcement stunned owner Jeanie Buss, LeBron James, and just about every other person involved.
While the Lakers have their own issues to deal with, Ainge's Celtics team enters the NBA Playoffs as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, having finished the regular season with a record of 49-33. Boston will host the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of their series on Sunday, April 14. That game, airing on TNT, is scheduled to tip at 1pm sharp.
