When Terry Crews came out and shared his story about getting sexually assaulted by Adam Venit, he said in an interview that he was shocked by how his Black community was divided with mostly women on his side to support him, while men were against him.
"Black men did not want any part of it," he said at the time. "All my support came from Black women. Straight up... A lot of guys were just like, 'Man, you weak. You sorry. You should have hit him. You should've knocked him out. You should have did all this stuff.' Black women were like, 'No, no, it doesn't work like that.' I was shocked at the split within my own community."
Terry has now followed up with a statement, tweeting an apology to the Black men he shunned when claiming their lack of support towards him.
"I’d like to also apologize to the black men that were hurt by my comments regarding a lack of support regarding my sexual assault, he wrote. "Truth is, if it had not happened to me, I would have been suspicious and doubtful too."
Adam has since apologized for inappropriately grabbing Terry's genitals. "I know that you didn't ask for any of this ... I take responsibility for us being here now, together in this situation. I am sorry for all of it," Adam wrote in a letter, expressing hope to work together in the future. "I even hope that someday we can come together and go forward with compassion and understanding and be an amazing force for positivity and change in our culture."
