An editor of a small-time Alabama newspaper is being pressed to resign from his position after suggesting that the KKK should lynch the Democrats. He suggested that the KKK should return to "clean out D.C." through public lynchings.
"We'll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them," he said.
The Montgomery Advertiser newspaper reached out to him following an article he published titled, "The Klan Needs To Ride Again" which was published last week. In the article, he kicks things off by saying that it's "time for the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again," because "Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama."
He doubled down on his comments on the Klan, saying, "If we could get the Klan to go up there and clean out D.C., we'd all been better off."
He clarified that it wasn't for all Americans, just the "social-communists."
"... It's not calling for the lynchings of Americans. These are socialist-communists we're talking about. Do you know what socialism and communism is?" He said
Comparing the white supremacist group to the NAACP, he said, "The Klan wasn't violent until they needed to be."
Several people have urged Sutton to resign including Senator Doug Jones.
"OMG! What rock did this guy crawl out from under? This editorial is absolutely disgusting & he should resign -NOW!" Jones tweeted. "I have seen what happens when we stand by while people-especially those with influence- publish racist, hateful views. Words matter. Actions matter. Resign now!"
