R. Kelly's legal issues continue to pile up each day. The singer was spent three night in jail last week after he failed to pay nearly $200K in back child support owed to his ex-wife. He was ultimately released but he appeared in court earlier today to plead with the judge to decrease his monthly child support payments which are currently set at $21K. However, his request for reduced child support payments was denied.
R. Kelly attorney revealed that the singer needs his child support payments reduced because the embattled singer hasn't been able to land any work, CBS Chicago reports.
“If you can’t play a show, if you can’t go out on tour, if they’re not streaming your music anymore, obviously you’re going to have financial problems. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out,” attorney Steve Greenberg said.
The hearing on the singer's child support payments was sealed but his lawyer did reveal that there were no changes made in his payments. Kells publicist, Darryll Johnson, said the singer doesn't even have any assets to sell, including his Trump Tower home which he rents. The singer is due back in court on May 8th.
Despite the allegations, Johnson said Kells has been locked into the studio.
“He’s recording every day. He has a studio in his home, so he’s always recording,” Johnson said. “All he does is sing; sing and record all day, and when he’s not doing that, he’s shooting basketball.”
