Bird Box is the highest grossing film over 1 week, in Netflix's history.

Netflix has come forward with the viewership totals for Bird Box, the latest in a series of post-apocalyptic thrillers to hit the scene. Since its unveiling on December 21st, Netflix is estimating that over 45 million streamers have tuned in Worldwide, to make the film the viral sensation it is Today. In other words, that gives Bird Box a first week tally of 45 million views, commensurate with the way these figures are counted up.

But there's a catch; Since Netflix subscribers are disposed to sharing their account with friends, sometimes well beyond the 4 profile allotment, the viewership is likely much higher than reported. With that said, the 45 million viewership total cannot be independently verified because Netflix generates data through a metric with few corresponding characters. Netflix is likely not fibbing about the totals. The streaming platform only releases data of this kind, under extenuating circumstances like a World Record, or a number as startling as 45 million-in-a-week.

Without further ado, this would make Bird Box the highest grossing film over the span of a week, in the platform's history. Think about it: Netflix has over 130 million user accounts submitted, which theoretically means, about one-third of the userbase has seen the movie starring Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich. If you saw you were among those 45 million, hit us with your thoughts.
