Jason Pierre-Paul has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL over the last few years although it hasn't all been without controversy. Back in 2015, Pierre-Paul had a fireworks accident which mangled his hand. This has forced him to play with a cast on his hand for the last few seasons. Pierre-Paul began his career with the New York Giants but is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last week, we reported that Pierre-Paul had been in a car accident in Broward County and that he had been released from the hospital.
At the time, it was uncertain what his injuries were but now, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Pierre-Paul suffered a fractured neck and could miss the entire 2019 season because of it.
After the accident had occurred, Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht released a statement where they explained how they would work to ensure Pierre-Paul's health.
"We have been informed that Jason was involved in a one-car accident early this morning in South Florida in which he was not cited," Licht said. "We know that he was evaluated at a local hospital and has since been released. Our immediate concern is for the safety and well-being of Jason and his passenger. We have been in contact with Jason and will be getting him further evaluated by our medical staff in the near future."
Stay tuned for updates on Pierre-Paul's status as the season draws closer.
