Along with recent interview for Power 105's the Breakfast Club, as well as an uninspired performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Rick Ross also paid a visit to MTV's RapFix Live as part of his Mastermind publicity.
During an interview with Sway Calloway, Sway decided to highlight certain lyrics off the new album, specifically the album's first cut "Rich is Gangsta." On the record, Rozay alludes to his past as correctional officer, something which he doesn't discuss very much, if at all.
On the track Ross spits, "Feds tore apart the squad nigga, that's why I had to play the part nigga / That wasn't me, it was a job nigga / It gets deeper, that was just a start, nigga."
"That particular line most definitely referred to me being a C.O.," Ross responded to Sway. "And that being a job and just understanding the grind and the hustle and anything else I may have done. It's just a job, it's a hustle."
When the news first broke that Ross held a job as a C.O., something which seemed in direct conflict with his drug dealer persona, the Florida native denied it. In 2009 though, he admitted that he did indeed have the job.
"I wouldn't change nothing, cause to me it's about who Rozay is," Ross said in the new interview on RapFix. "It's about me. Anywhere I go, when I step in the room, I put it down. People know it's authentic right here, they know it's real, so it was nothing that I was personally threatened with, I was just ready to move on. Let's go get this money, let's make this music."
Nonetheless, Rozay says he would take the position in a minute if he needed to feed his family. "And right now, to feed my family — I'd do it again," he said. "To feed my kids, I'd go get it. We gon' get it. My whole team gon' go get it. We gon win. And that's with everything we ever did. I been winning."
