Beyonce, following in the footsteps of her husband Jay Z, decided to go with completely #newrules when dropping her new album, Beyonce. The superstar dropped the project on iTunes first, basically out of thin air, going on to sell 80,000 copies in the first three hours of its release, and 430,000 copies in the first 24 hours.
The first-week sales projections are obviously looking good for Bey, with an estimated 600,000 copies to be sold within opening week. But the first three days her album was available on iTunes have been fruitive enough: she sold 828,773 copies.
According to a press release from iTunes, this is a new record, and Beyonce has the fastest-selling iTunes release of all time. It surpasses the former holder of this title, Taylor Swift, whose album Red did 465,000 copies on iTunes in the first week.
More factoids about Queen Bey's Beyonce: her album went to #1 in 104 countries and sold 617,213 copies in the U.S. alone. She's also got herself the best opening week for a woman in 2013.
