If you squashed all of the ranks of Soundcloud rappers into a video game, Lil Pump would be the final boss. With his designer drip, custom chains and self-professed ignorance for wannabe rappers eager to toss their home-produced beats into the game, Lil Pump is a far cry from the more "serious" lyricists that came before him.
His genre was lambasted by J. Cole on the track "1985 (Intro to “The Fall Off”)" with Cole spitting bars like: "I'm fuckin' with your funky lil' rap name/I hear your music and I know that rap's changed/A bunch of folks would say that that's a bad thing.
"I'm hoping for your sake that you ain't dumb as you look/But if it's really true what people sayin'/And you call yourself playin' with my name/Then I really know you fucked, trust"
Hitting hard at Pump and his past "Fuck J. Cole" trolling quickly made it clear that not everyone was vying to be the newcomer's hype man.
True to form, however, Pump has stood by his IDGAF attitude despite backing down on the direct attacks aimed at lyrical rappers. Frequently hopping on social media to flex, troll and show off his life of excess, Pump's Instagram feed is an IRL manifestation of his irreverent lyrics and high energy.
