16-year-old Treasure Richards caused a stir last week when she went on Dr Phil and claimed that she is white and does not like black people (Richards is black). As some may have guessed, it turns out that the Dr Phil segment was fake and that Treasure and her mother went on the show to make some money and get an all expenses paid trip to California, according to a young woman who claims to be Treasure's sister.
For some context, an excerpt of Treasure's remarks on Dr Phil that come off as satire in the same way as the "transracial" skit from season one of Donald Glover's Atlanta:
I have naturally straight hair. My hair is not nappy; it doesn't require a weave. My nose is not giant, like African-Americans, my lips are perfect […] Most African-Americans speak ghetto. When it comes to black people, I think they’re all ugly and I have nothing in common with them. I’m different from African Americans because I’m white.
Here is a video of Treasure on Dr Phil:
After finding out that her sister was on the show, a 25-year-old woman went on Instagram Live claiming to be Treasure's sister and systematically debunking all of Treasure, her brother and her mother's claims that Treasure identifies as a white racist.
