He's not wrong, either.

In the last decade, no genre of music has been nearly as innovative as hip-hop. With Kanye West constantly evolving and Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole just beginning to hit their peaks, amazing things are on the horizon for fans of rap. Most of the musical experimentation and tests have come through the hip-hop medium as artists continually seek what sounds good, what works, and how to break boundaries. Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine recognizes this, calling on several prominent rappers to guest on his group's singles. In a new interview, he detailed what he finds so special about hip-hop and his opinion will likely resonate with a large number of you.

After revealing that he and his bandmates have always been influenced by rap music, he admitted that rock has hit somewhat of a rough patch. "I don’t know where [rock music] is. If it’s around, no one’s invited me to the party," said Levine. He continued by praising all the talented individuals who work within the hip-hop genre, saying, "All of the innovation and the incredible things happening in music are in hip-hop. It’s better than everything else. Hip-hop is weird and avant-garde and flawed and real, and that’s why people love it."

He's not wrong either. Hip-hop has ruled the charts for a decent number of years, introducing the most clever concepts and telling stories more effectively than other genres. Read Adam's full interview with Variety here and chime in in the comments.
