Facebook has taken measures against people they've deemed "dangerous" on their platform which include the leader of Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan, "InfoWars" conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, and right-wing provocateur, Milo Yiannapolis, among others. Although Jones was banned from Facebook last August, he continued to possess an Instagram account which has also been purged.
In addition to the previously mentioned individuals, right-wing personalities such as Laura Loomer, Paul Joseph Watson, and Paul Nehlen, also found themselves barred from the social media platform.
"We've always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology," a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business in a statement. "The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today."
The company's spokesperson continued to explain that they go through a lengthy process with numerous factors involved to determine who they believe is "dangerous." These factors include if a person or organization called for acts of violence against people or groups of people "based on race, ethnicity, or national origin; whether the person has been identified with a hateful ideology; whether they use hate speech or slurs in their about section on their social media profiles; and whether they have had pages or groups removed from Facebook for violating hate speech rules."
