Since August 18 2012, Drake surpassed the legendary Jay Z in terms of number one records on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Jay Z held the title with nine number ones at the time, but Drizzy pulled in his tenth number one with being featured on 2 Chainz's "No Lie". He acknowledged his victory on the track "5AM In Toronto" saying:
"You underestimated greatly / Most number ones ever, how long did it really take me?"
Well, to answer that question, it took him approximately eleven years (those are all the years Drake has been active as a rapper-- he wasn't mainstream popular all those years, keep in mind). Compare that to Hov, who took twenty-four years (he's been active since 1988). There are many elements that play into this, including the fact that rap music has rose in popularity continuously each year, so we can't really judge based off numbers alone, but it's an interesting comparison nonetheless.
In 2013 the Toronto native landed his eleventh number one with the NWTS single "Hold On, We're Going Home" featuring Majid Jordan. Full steam ahead, you'll probably continue to see his numbers rise. In the words of 2nd place Jay Z: "Men lie, woman lie, numbers don't."
