Last year, German newspaper Der Spiegel published an article in which an anonymous American woman revealed that soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo allegedly raped her in 2009 and bought her silence for $375,000 in an out-of-court settlement. Most recently, the woman Kathryn Mayorga, shed her ranonymity in order to detail the alleged incident that took place at a Las Vegas hotel in '09 in a new article with the publication.
According to Mayorga, Ronaldo was on vacation on June 12, 2009, where she met him at a hotel in Sin City. She was invited back to his room where she says that he "begged" for her to touch his penis and would not let her leave until she kissed hm. She alleges that when she kissed him, he became aggressive and anally raped her in his hotel bedroom.
"When he was finished he still didn't want to let me go," Mayorga alleges. "He looked at me, full of guilt and started calling me 'baby'."
"I can't remember exactly what he said but he said sorry, asking if I had pain. Then he went down on his knees and said: '99% of me is a good guy, I just don’t know about the other 1%'"
Ronaldo's legal team swiftly responded to this new article, revealing that they plan on suing the German publication for the "blatantly ilegal" article, adding that it is "probably one of the most serious violations of personal rights in recent years”.
During an Instagrma live session, Cristiano also addressed the allegations when prompted. Smiling, the Juventus star assured fans: "No, no, no, no, no. What they said today? Fake, fake news. They want to promote my name. It’s normal. They want to be famous to say my name, but it is part of the job. I am happy, man—and all good.”
As seen on The Sun, photos of Ronaldo out withMayorgaa the night of the incident have surface online and while it does not point towards conviction, Mayorga's lawyers are intent on going ater Ronaldo for more than the alleged settlement sum.
“Kathryn was sexually assaulted in June 2009 by an individual named Cristiano Ronaldo,” Mayorga’s lawyer, Leslie Mark Stovall, told Der Spiegel. "The purpose of this lawsuit is to hold Cristiano Ronaldo responsible within a civil court of law for the injuries he has caused Kathryn Mayorga and the consequences of those injuries."
