Tiger Found In Vacant Home In Houston By Resident Trying To Smoke Weed

Just a regular day on the block, apparently.

A citizen of Houston was in for a big surprise when he was searching for a place to smoke. According to Houston's ABC affiliate, a resident in Houston called the police after finding a tiger in an abandoned home.

Police responded to a call from a concerned citizen who entered a bando in Houston to smoke weed, only to find a tiger inside of the abandoned house.

"A concerned citizen called 311. They were trying to get into this house to smoke marijuana. We questioned them as to whether they were under the effects of the drugs or they actually saw a tiger. They saw a tiger in this building, this vacant house that's obviously been abandoned for some time," said Sgt. Jason Alderete, of HPD's Major Offenders, Livestock Animal Cruelty Unit.

Police obtained a warrant to search the abandoned to find the tiger in "deplorable conditions." They said the cage that the animal was in wasn't large or strong enough for an animal of that size.

Although they said the animal was friendly, the tiger was tranquilized for safety reasons before being moved to Houston's BARC's headquarters. There have been arrangements made for the exotic animal to be transferred to a facility that focuses on handling exotic pets.

BARC spokesperson Laura Cottingham explained that caring for these animals can be extremely expensive, making it difficult to find them a permanent home.
