Nike recently unveiled their latest self-lacing sneaker, the Nike Adapt BB. The original iteration of the shoe was the HyperAdapt 1.0 which cost a hefty $720. This new version, the Adapt BB, is actually half the price of the HyperAdapt at $350. While this is still expensive to some, the price could potentially come down as Nike perfects the technology.
Tinker Hatfield, the mind behind the Air Max 1, numerous Jordan models, and the HyperAdapt, is now saying that the price of Nike's self-lacing sneakers will eventually become on par with other performance sneakers.

“You talked about price point too. It’s like phones and other technical innovations that are more expensive when they first come out. The first one was $720, and it’s not as good of a playing shoe as this. The more we keep engineering and re-building these motors, they shrink down, and we can put them into more sizes and fit women better, and maybe kids too. Also, we could retro-fit other shoes with this technology. The more of these you make, the less expensive they get. You could play that out, and at some point, the products are going to be far less expensive, and they’re going to be expected too, by the way. ‘Oh, it doesn’t have power lacing?’”
Hatfield also said there is potential for these kicks to end up being scaled down to kids sizes.
