Everyone knows who Donald Trump is. Likewise with Elvis. In fact, these two men are probably some of the most recognizable people in the history of the United States, maybe even to the point of being symbolic representatives of the country, for better or for worse. Everyone also knows that the two men don't look much like each other, other than the fact that they're white and have hairstyles that are little floofy.
Donald Trump disagrees. To cozy up to the crowd at a rally in Elvis' hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi, he claimed that when he was growing up, people thought he looked like Elvis. He said: “I shouldn’t say this. You’ll say I’m very conceited, because I’m not. Other than the blond hair, when I was growing up they said I looked like Elvis. Can you believe it? I always considered that a great compliment.” Now, if there's one surefire way to sound conceited, it's to insist that you're not.
Needless to say, with the amount of scrutiny that POTUS receives, Trump got dragged through the mud for this one. In the interest of avoiding low-blow shut-downs related to Trump's appearance, I'll just quote one Tweet that simply contrasted the two men: "Elvis put on a uniform." If you're wondering, Donald Trump got five draft deferments citing, among other things, his now-famous malady: "shin splints."
