The Lakers are most likely going to miss the playoffs.

Ever since LeBron James went down with a groin injury on Christmas Day, the Los Angeles Lakers have been in a tailspin. They were fourth in the Western Conference at the time, but now they are 11th with a record of 30-35. To make matters worse, they are 6.5 games back of a playoff spot with 17 games left. The Lakers situation has led many to suggest that LeBron should sit the rest of the year in order to improve the team's chances in the draft lottery. Former NBA player Caron Butler is completely against that idea, telling TMZ Sports that if James were to sit, he'd be cheating himself and the fans.

"Absolutely not, no. He's still gon' play," Butler said. "Think about the years with Kobe Bryant and those guys weren't playing well. Kobe still was out there he still was hoopin', he was balling. (You'd be) cheating the fans, maybe give him limited minutes ... but you can't just say I'm shutting him down because we didn't exceed expectations."

Last night, James played in the team's 115-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets. While the team took another L, LeBron reached a personal milestone as he surpassed Michael Jordan for fourth all-time on the NBA leading scorers list.

You can watch Jay Williams make his case as to why LeBron should sit, in the video below.
