Former NBA All Star Chris Bosh is no longer entertaining the idea of making a return to the NBA.
Bosh, 34, recently told Bill Simmons that he will officially retire from the league at his jersey retirement ceremony in Miami on March 26.
Bosh, who has not appeared in an NBA game since the 2015-16 season, tells Simmons (H/T Bryan Kalbrosky of HoopsHype):
"That part of my life is over. That has been a tough thing to deal with but I'm good, which has taken a long time [for me to accept] ... I could have kept playing. But man, that time has passed. I've made the decision not to pursue it anymore."
The Miami Heat will raise Bosh's #1 jersey into the rafters at American Airlines Arena during a special ceremony at halftime on March 26, making him the fourth player in Heat history to have their jersey retired. That list already includes Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning and Shaquille O'Neal, and will soon include Dwyane Wade.
The Miami Heat acquired Bosh in a trade with the Toronto Raptors on July 9, 2010, and he spent six seasons with the team. During that time, the Heat made four consecutive NBA Finals appearances and won back-to-back NBA championships in 2012 and 2013.
In 13 NBA seasons, Bosh earned All-Star honors 11 times and boasts career averages of 19.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game.
According to NBA.com, Bosh ranks third in Miami Heat playoff history in points (1,163), field goals made (437), offensive rebounds (145), double-doubles (18), and double-figure scoring games (61).
