DeMarcus Cousins is hoping to make his on-court debut with the Golden State Warriors sometime after the Holiday season, according to a report by Logan Murdock of the Mercury News. Cousins, who signed a one-year, $5.2M deal with the Warriors last off-season, has been sidelined since January, when he suffered a torn Achilles as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.
According to the report, Cousins met with the team's training staff on Friday, November 23 and was hoping to join the team during their upcoming five-game road trip which kicks off in Toronto this Thursday, November 29. Although there haven't been any setbacks in his recovery process, the group reportedly decided it's best to hold off on his return until after Christmas, giving him enough time to get his conditioning in check.
Murdock notes that Boogie participated in a scrimmage alongside Stephen Curry, who is still nursing a groin injury, prior to the team's 117-116 victory over the Kings on Saturday.
Per the Mercury News:
"According to a player in the scrimmage, Cousins looked “solid.” The scrimmages have been a part of Cousins’ new six-day a week regimen with the team in anticipation of his pending return."
Cousins, 28, has earned All-Star honors in each of the last four seasons, though he missed the 2018 festivities in Los Angeles due to the achilles injury. In 48 games with the Pelicans last season he averaged 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals per game.
Despite all of their injuries and issues off the court this season, the two-time defending champs are still 14-7 and just percentage points behind the... Los Angeles Clippers for first in the West.
