Times are changing. California has long been known as a weed smoker's paradise, but now the West Coast haven it taking it to the next level. As reported by Business Insider, travelers passing through LAX can no travel with marijuana in their carry-on or checked bags. Yes, you read that correctly. If you are flying out of LAX, you can pack some of your favorite medicine and take it with you.
A statement published on the official website of LAX reads, "While federal law prohibits the possession of marijuana (inclusive of federal airspace,) California’s passage of Proposition 64, effective January 1, 2018, allows for individuals 21 years of age or older to possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana for personal consumption. In accordance with Proposition 64, the Los Angeles Airport Police Department will allow passengers to travel through LAX with up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana."
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) still has the power to stop travelers with marijuana from entering their flight though, so it looks like this will all be at the employee's discrimination. In that case, the weed would just be confiscated with no consequence unless it's over the legal limit. Travelers should also beware landing in states where weed is illegal, because dogs at an airport in Texas, for example, will still pick up on the scent which can earn you jail time.
