Spotify announces another tool catered to independent artists.

Back in the early days of Spotify, you had to have a plug or be a mainstream act to be placed on their coveted playlists. The streaming platform has now introduced another way to help independent musicians, by allowing them to submit their music for playlist consideration directly to Spotify's editorial team - cutting out a middleman. This news comes directly after Spotify's recent moves that allowed acts to upload their music directly to the platform themselves.

Portland duo Small Millions spoke with Billboard about the new playlist update and how helpful the submission tool has been.

"We initially heard about the playlist submission feature from some other artist friends who posted about it on Facebook. Then when we noticed the tool was available on our Spotify for Artists dashboard we hopped right on it," band member Malachi Graham explained. "We really weren’t sure what would come of it, but we were excited for the chance to get the song out there for consideration without needing to have our own personal connection to a label or Spotify curators."
