Contract talks between Amari Cooper and his new club the Dallas Cowboys are expected to take place when the season comes to an end. This month, Dallas swung a deal for Amari, parting with a coveted first-round pick in the process. Although the deal was immediately criticized by the fanbase, but Jerry Jones was ultimately vindicated when the team's fortunes started turning around with Cooper running routes deep into the opponent's backfield, as he did this past Thursday.
Cooper, who has 22 receptions for 349 yards and three TDs since joining the Cowboys' roster, has seen his stock rise exponentially since the deal was struck. You may have forgotten, but Amari is still playing under his entry-level contract, due to the fact Oakland picked up his fifth-year option going into this season. These are unusual circumstances given the fact teams normally restructure the contracts of prized assets before they enter their 5th season. This wouldn't be the first time Oakland was guilty of mishandling the talent at their disposal.
Dallas last played on Thanksgiving Thursday in a nail-biting contest with the division rival Washington Redskins. The game ended in a 23-31 victory for the Cowboys, with Cooper's two TD scores undeniably the difference between a W and an L in the box score.
The Cowboys face their toughest test of the season when the 10-1 Saints visit AT&T Stadium next weekend.
