TIDAL has advertised their brand as a streaming platform by artists, for artists. Since their inception, TIDAL has been the service that pays their musicians the most. To put things in context, one million streams on TIDAL will get you paid way more money than on any of their competitors. However, they have been accused of embellishing their streaming numbers for Kanye West's The Life of Pablo and Beyonce's Lemonade. According to BloombergQuint, an investigation was opened today against Jay-Z's service in Norway by the Norwegian Authority for Investigation of Economic and Environmental Crime but TIDAL wants everybody to know that that's false.
In a statement delivered to Complex, a representative for TIDAL is saying that the company is not under investigation in Norway. They said, "TIDAL is not a suspect in the investigation. We are communicating with Økokrim. From the very beginning, [Dagens Næringsliv] has quoted documents that they have not shared with us in spite of repeated requests. DN has repeatedly made claims based on information we believe may be falsified. We are aware that at least one person we suspected of theft has been questioned. We cannot comment further at this time and refer to our previous statement, which still stands."
TIDAL's CEO has previously stated that while they do not regularly comment on false stories, they felt it would be inappropriate not to address the issue. What do you make of all this?
