It might seem a bit arbitrary to comment on such an achievement, but Gucci Mane clinching his fifth Top 10 album with Evil Genius is no small feat for a trap-rapper coming up in East Atlanta. Gucci Mane has certainly come a long way since his humble beginnings. Billboard just announced the weekly turnover for their Top 200 Albums Chart, and yes, Gucci Mane was back in the Top 10, for his week-old album Evil Genius, the latest in a string of charting efforts dating back to 2005 when he dropped the first of many Trap House projects.
Gucci Mane slots in at 5th place in the Top 200 behind Michael Buble's Christmas album and the A Star Is Born soundtrack performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper (who also acted in the film). In 2nd place, Meek Mill loses his number one spot to the incumbent champ XXXTentacion whose posthumous album Skins came out at the very same time as Evil Genius to heavy scrutiny and attention, all of which worked in X's favor by week's end (RIP). Skins is the first posthumous album to debut in number one since Prince's The Very Best of Prince took the top spot in 2016, shortly after the singer's death.
