"I was willing to do anything to keep them out."

For a Canadian city, Toronto's been getting a lot of action in the past couple days. First there was the heavily publicized fight at Pusha T's show at the Danforth Music Hall, where a guy left with "life threatening injuries." Yesterday there was a less publicized but much more outrageous altercation.

At a jewellery store in Mississauga (in Toronto's West end, it's technically its own city), four men tried to break in and rob the place in broad daylight, smashing the glass with Hammers. But they didn't account for one thing: swords. The store's employees weren't about to let the merchandise get taken just because one of the guys had a gun.

Arjun Kumar, the son of the owner, was insistent that it was the natural thing to do: “When we saw them coming in, that’s when we really took action and we rushed them. I was willing to do anything to keep them out. Even if it meant me getting shot, not a problem.” He also said, of the swords, "it was good luck for us."

“We certainly don’t encourage any store owners to do that,” said Constable Akhil Mooken of Peel police, “while they have a right to protect themselves and their property it could have gone a different way.” I think it's fitting to end on what Canada's national broadcaster, the CBC, wrote in their article about the attempted robbery: "The owner of another jewelry store just 100 metres away also ended an attempted robbery using a sword in July."
