Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper had himself a day on the national stage last night, as he reeled in eight passes from Dak Prescott for 180 yards and a pair of third quarter touchdowns, including a 90-yarder. That connection marked the longest pass of Prescott's career and the longest by a Cowboy since Troy Aikman hit Jason Tucker with a 90-yarder on Jan. 2, 2000, according to ESPN.
Prescott also found Cooper for a 40-yard touchdown, after which the 24-year old receiver channeled Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz during his TD celebration. As seen in the video posted to Fultz' snapchat, he didn't seem to mind that Cooper mimicked his bizarre technique from the free throw line.
Thanks to Cooper's monster game, the Cowboys have now leapfrogged the Washington Redskins for first place in the NFC East with a 6-5 record. After Thursday's 31-23 victory, Cooper noted that he "wants to prove the Cowboys right" for spending a first-round draft pick on him.
"I don't want to prove the Raiders wrong," Cooper said, "I want to prove the Cowboys right. They traded for me and I'm ready to be a good player for them."
"I think tonight speaks on how I've been saying that he makes this whole transition easy," Prescott said. "The elite player he is. He gets space and he creates space himself with the route running that he has. He did that and then he went and got a lot of yards after the catch. That's what big-time receivers do."
Dallas will host the 10-1 New Orleans Saints next Thursday.
