After a six-year hiatus, Diggy Simmons returned in proper form with his Lighten Up album, a full body of work that displayed an impeccable amount of growth and a change in trajectory for the offspring of hip-hop royalty and one-time XXL Freshman class inductee.
On Lighten Up, listeners got a version of Diggy that opened us up to retro contemporary soundscapes and a new image to match and perhaps no example has encapsulated that shift as much as Simmons' latest "Text Me" music video.
The track, featuring Leven Kali, was one of the velvet-like singles that preceded Lighten Up and its new video offers up a wondrous look at shooting your shot, with Diggy all grown up, recounting the common frustration of waiting on a love interest's first sign of life after sliding the digits, even carrying us through the phase of daydreaming of a future with said person while hopeless anticipation builds.
